MoU With Falak Startups and Newgiza University

NGU is pleased to announce the signage of an MoU between Falak Startups and the School of Business and Finance for the establishment of an Academic Partnership and Program Development. The two parties expect the Academic Partnership to contribute in supporting the development of Falak’s beneficiary start-ups as well as the NGU’s selected students and alumni; through the provision of a range of academic services, capability building, resource sharing, and recognized certifications. NGU and Falak will design the program based on the priority needs of Falak and the local start-up ecosystem in Egypt within the guidelines and academic standards of the NGU.

Moreover, Falak shall implement activities in accordance with the agreed Academic Partnership and the program.

The initiation of the implementation of this Academic Partnership and its program is intended for Fall 2019.

The MoU signing took place on the sideline of the “Demo Day” organized by Falak Startups, in the presence of Dr. Sahar Nasr, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation.


UCL and University of Toronto Collaborative Research Project with NGU

NGU is proud to be part of a Medical Education research project together with UCL and University of Toronto. The research objective is to improve the collaboration between institutions by setting up small projects in areas of mutual expertise and interest. Site visits will be conducted to critically evaluate two existing global medical education partnerships by the organizations.

Medical education experts will review existing education partnerships with a critical gaze. The first visit was conducted to Addis Ababa University to evaluate the joint master program with UoT by Dr. Ahmed Rashid and Dr. Deborah Gill from UCL, Prof. Lamis Ragab and Dr. Monica Wassim from NGU, and Dr. Cynthia Whitehead and Dr. Sohpie Soklaridis from the University of Toronto.

The evaluation scholars from UoT and AAU will conduct the second site visit to NGU in November 2019.


THE FinHub-NGU Launching Event

NGU is pleased to announce the launching event of The FinHub-NGU on April 15, 2019.

The Fin-Hub-NGU, faculty-supervised and student-led, has a mission to promote finance-related activities and careers throughout the NGU community. Through different initiatives, associations, and subsidiary clubs, members will have access to workshops, competitions and career events that can equip them with a wide variety of required practical skills and knowledge to effectively and ethically compete in the financial markets.

This year’s first launching arm is CFA Ambassadors, a CFA-approved student activity that prepares students to compete in the CFA Research Challenge through several councils covering topics from financial Instruments valuations to Fin-Tech.

Walid Hassouna, Chief Executive Officer | EFG Hermes Finance and CEO of valU 

Walid Hassouna is the Chief Executive Officer of EFG Hermes Finance. In addition to his role as CEO of the non-bank financial institute, Walid Hassouna is also a non-executive board member of Tanmeyah microenterprises and EFG Hermes Leasing, both subsidiaries of EFG Hermes Finance. Vice Chairman of EFG-EV fintech accelerator, board member of Karm solar and Kazyon hard discount stores

Prior to joining EFG Hermes in 2016, Walid Hassouna was General Manager and Head of Structured Finance and Investment Banking at Bank Audi, where he closed structured and project finance transactions in excess of USD 15 billion over a seventeen-year banking career that began at Misr International Bank. He also structured and executed several award-winning deals, in project finance and M&A within Egypt and GCC, in addition to several investment banking transactions. He has also been the Head of structured finance and syndication in Banque Misr where he successfully managed to top the league table of the MENA region in syndicated loans.

Walid is a Cairo-University B.B.A holder, where he graduated with highest honors. He also holds an MBA from J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University as well as Islamic Finance Qualification from CISI- UK.

Ahmed Abou El Saad, CFA, MBA

Ahmed Abou El Saad is Chairman and Managing Director of Rasmala Egypt Asset Management managing a total AUM of EGP 10 billion (USD 560 Million) in a wide range of institutional/HNW portfolios as well as Public Equity and Money Market funds. Ahmed also Co-Heads the Mena Region for Rasmala Holding based in Dubai managing approx. USD 1.8 billion in different asset classes and investment instruments.
Previously, he was head of asset management at Naeem Holding managing a total MUM reaching USD 520 million of HNW Gulf portfolios. Earlier, Mr. Abouelsaad was Head of Capital Markets at MIBank, where he managed the bank’s investment portfolio in public trading equities, Fixed income instruments and private equity. He has also served as head of surveillance at the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange, where he was on the executive committee that works on introducing new instruments and regulations to the market.
Ahmed is currently a board member at the Egyptian Stock Exchange. He is also the President of CFA Society Egypt & the Secretary General of the Egyptian Investment Management Association.
Mr. Abou El Saad has a Bachelor of Arts from Alexandria University, an MBA from the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, and a professional certificate in project finance and investment appraisal from the Harvard Institute for International Development.

Mr. Ayman Abu Hend

Ayman is an Entrepreneurial Capitalist with more than 9 years experience in investment banking, private equity, distress investing, restructuring and turnaround management and Hedge funds investing in financial, tech, real estate, F&B, FMCGs and service industries

Besides being Private equity and Hedge fund investor, Ayman is the Co-founder and Chief analytic officer at “Advisable Wealth Engines, Inc”, an American company that works in algorithmic trading, wealth management and portfolio management with clientele including Goldman Sacks, Greatwest financials, PCR and Morgan Stanley.

Also, Ayman is the major shareholder of Wall Street Chamber, Inc, a rising start up and Microsoft partner that provides Financial institution with fintech technologies that serves different needs.

Ayman started his career life by joining his school friend, Yahia Megahed, creating a VC fund that invested in Middle Eastern startups. Collectively Ayman and his partner have had three exits and two mergers with aggregated deal values that exceed $50 millions. They are supervising now the acquisition of 360 imaging, Inc, a bio-medical dental company that they started 7 years ago, by a $10 billion dollar NYSE public company.

Ayman is also the treasurer of the CFA Society Egypt since 2014.

Ayman is a geeky persona. He hold’s BSc in communication and electronics engineering and earned his CFA charter in August 2011 and has scored 730 in his GMAT test.


Academic visit by King’s College London

Next week, NGU will be pleased to host Dr Leone Leonida, Senior Lecturer in Economics and Finance at KCL, from Sunday 14 April until Tuesday 16 April.

This visit is part of the academic collaboration between NGU & KCL. The three-day visit will deliver several lectures with the students of the School of Business & Finance, in addition to academic meetings with the school’s faculty members and management.

About Dr Leone Leonida:

Dr Leone Leonida holds MSc Economics and a PhD in Economics from University of York (2005) and a PhD in Financial Economics from University of Naples (2001). His research interest lies in studying the extent to which the predictive ability of the Early Warning Systems in forecasting systemic banking crisis is improved by variables capturing the concentration level in the banking sector, its securitization activity and mechanisms of systemic contagion. He is also studying the relationship between corporate investment and the firm’s capital structure, and developing semiparametric techniques describing the evolution of the wages and the per capita income distribution across the world and EU economies.
Leone’s research has been published in outlets such as, among others, The Journal of Banking and Finance, The Journal of Applied Econometrics, The Global Strategy Journal, Economics Letters, The Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, The European Journal of Political Economy, and Empirical Economics. He has refereed for thirty different journals in economics and finance.


NGU Dental Clinics is now Offering Free Dental Services to Giza Residents

During the first week of the soft opening of our new dental clinics, NGU offered free dental services to patients from Giza governorate. This initiative comes as part of the signed protocol between the School of Dentistry and الاداره العامه لطب الاسنان بالجيزه.


NGU Pharmacy Students visited University College London

Newgiza University 2nd-year pharmacy students were in an academic visit to the School of Pharmacy at University College London. This is a part of the collaboration between NGU and UCL. Through this visit, the students got exposed to a lot of learning and challenges.  The students had the opportunity to enrich their practical experience through attending useful lectures and academic workshops by UCL faculty. Especially when they excelled at their poster presentations for the pharmacy seniors at UCL. Visiting the UCL hospital, Green Light pharmacy and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society offered our pharmacy students remarkable knowledge and unique exposure.

NGU Dental Students Participate in UAE’s Top Dental Event in the MENA Region

Continuing our leading role in the education and research sectors, Newgiza University School of Dentistry is taking steps towards international publications.

NGU dental team of researchers attended the AEEDC 23rd conference, presenting the new perspective of their research article ” The periodontal stem/progenitor cell inflammatory-regenerative cross talk”.

The UAE International Dental Conference & Arab Dental Exhibition – (AEEDC Dubai) is the top dental event in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia region (MENASA) and the second largest dental event in the world. AEEDC Dubai always brings the top researchers and doctors.

The School of Dentistry at NGU offers an experience that delivers dentally qualified clinicians able to provide safe and high-quality oral health care to local, national and international communities. Furthermore, the academic collaboration between NGU and University College London (UCL) works on the development of delivering a high-quality and contemporary undergraduate dental program, making the NGU dental school a unique experience of learning.

As a part of NGU’s collaboration with King’s College London, NGU is pleased to announce its Exchange and Study Abroad Programs for its students in the school of Business and Finance. The Exchange and Study Abroad Programs will offer excelling students in the school of Business and Finance an opportunity to study for a semester and up to a year abroad at King’s College London.

The objective of the programs is to create unique learning opportunities for students at NGU to explore their field of study in an international context and to enable them to add professional experience to their learning. Moreover, the programs aim at helping the students to expand their learning perspectives by exposing them to different learning methods than that in their own countries which will build their analytical and critical thinking skills. The programs also provide the students with opportunities to act as ambassadors to their university and their country by being exposed to diverse cultures and nationalities during either their Exchange or Study Abroad Programs. Finally, upon returning from their Exchange or Study Abroad Programs, students will assume leadership roles and provide support to consecutive colleagues who will undertake the program.
