Newgiza University (NGU) sponsors “Tutankhamun: Excavating the Archive” exhibition held at the British Embassy in Cairo
Newgiza University (NGU), headed by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sameh Farid, NGU President, sponsored “Tutankhamun: Excavating the Archive” exhibition held at the British Embassy in Cairo, which celebrates 100 years of Tutankhamun’s tomb discovery by the British archaeologist and Egyptologist, Howard Carter, and his Egyptian and British teams.
The ceremony was inaugurated by the British Ambassador to Egypt, HBM Mr. Gareth Bayley, in the presence of Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sameh Farid, President of Newgiza University (NGU), Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Lamis Ragab, Vice President of Newgiza University (NGU), as well as several ambassadors and distinguished public figures, and Newgiza University (NGU) Deans and students representatives.
The celebration comprised a world-class exhibition, which was on display until last February at the Bodleian Library in the University of Oxford. The exhibition tells the story of Carter and his excavation team, and their journey to discover Tutankhamun’s tomb which fascinated the whole world. It displays Carter’s papers and documents, which are preserved at the Griffith Institute in the University of Oxford, and include pictures, letters, charts among other historical documents.
The British ambassador highlighted the significance of celebrating the 100th anniversary of Tutankhamun tomb discovery, announcing the arrival of the boxes that are loaded with the tomb’s artifacts, to be displayed at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and dazzle the Egyptians and the whole world.
The British ambassador also praised the ten Egyptians who accompanied Carter over the years on his mission leading to the discovery of this great tomb.
Newgiza University (NGU) President, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sameh Farid, highlighted that NGU was keen to sponsor this celebration given the great value that it represents. He added that the Egyptian civilization amaze the whole world, and that our history is full of heritage that we need to preserve and introduce to the young generations by including them in such key cultural events. These new generations must understand the greatness and richness of their country’s history, and consequently, they will be able to create a better future for their country, and that’s what we all wish for.
