King’s College London Brings its Global Competence to NGU School of Economics and Politics

The School of Economics and Politics is pleased to welcome Prof. Jeremy Jennings, Head of the School of Politics & Economics & Professor of Political Theory, Dr. Colin Jennings, Programme Director for King’s BSc in Economics, Dr. Gabriel Leon, Senior Lecturer in Political Economy, and Dr. Elisa Cavatorta, Senior Lecturer in Political Economy. This visit came in the framework of the academic collaboration between King’s School of Politics and Economics, and the School of Economics and Politics at NGU. The collaboration is intended to support the design, implementation, and delivery of an undergraduate BSc in Economics/Politics.

During the two-day visit the visiting professors and Dr. Hala Sakr, Dean School of Economics and Politics at NGU, met with H.E. Ambassador Kahled Rady, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Institute for Diplomatic Studies to discuss aspects of future cooperation. The visiting professors also met with the School of Economics and Politics faculty members and students. Several sessions/workshops took place during the visit some of which are:

  • Roundtable on Brexit
  • Core Curriculum Workshop
  • Research Presentation
  • Assessment Methods Workshop

Professor Jeremy Jennings, Head of the School of Politics & Economics & Professor of Political Theory, received his doctorate from the University of Oxford. Jeremy taught at the University of Swansea (1979-1995), the University of Birmingham (1995-2005), and Queen Mary University of London (2005-2013). He served as Head of Department in Birmingham and at Queen Mary, was Vincent Wright Professor at the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques in Paris in 2006 and was also a visiting fellow at the University of Columbia Research Centre in Paris. Jeremy holds a visiting professorship with the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques.

Dr. Colin Jennings, Programme Director for King’s BSc in Economics, was an undergraduate at Queen’s Belfast. He completed his masters at Queen’s Kingston, Ontario and his Ph.D. at Southampton University. He has worked as a lecturer at Portsmouth University, as a college lecturer at Queen’s College, Oxford University and most recently he was a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Strathclyde University. He is the Programme Director for King’s BSc in Economics.

Dr. Gabriel Leon is a Lecturer in Political Economy in the Department of Political Economy, King’s. He was an undergraduate in Applied Mathematics at Harvard, completed his Ph.D. in Economics at Oxford, and was most
recently the Bevil Mabey Fellow in Economics at St Catharine’s College, University of Cambridge.

Dr. Elisa Cavatorta is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Department of Political Economy and the BA/BSc Political Economy Programme director. Elisa holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Birkbeck, University of London. Before joining the department, she worked at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
