The Egypt Launch Webinar of the 2020 Lancet Countdown Report to be Hosted by the School of Medicine

The Lancet Countdown on health and climate change is the biggest international research collaboration in the world providing a global overview of the relationship between public health and climate change. The launch of the annual report usually takes place across the world at nationally led online events.

NGU is pleased to be the first university to host The Egypt Launch Webinar of the 2020 Lancet Countdown Report. Around 120 world-leading experts, from 38 academic institutions and UN agencies spanning every continent have looked at more than 40 indicators for the 2020 Report of the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change.

Climate change is threatening the health of people around the world. It is no longer a future problem. Our food stocks are compromised, our land is burning, our air is polluted, and the hospitals and clinics we depend on are under increasing pressure. Yet, responding to climate change offers a brighter future for global health, cleaner skies, healthier diets, and more livable cities.

Launching amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the webinar will reveal and explore the latest global health profile of climate change in the context of this unprecedented and challenging moment in time. On the eve of the five-year anniversary of the Paris Agreement, and as we look ahead to the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties, COP26, we will discuss the consequences of delayed action for public health, and the health, economic and societal benefits of a robust and rapid response.

This event will contextualize the findings of the 2020 Lancet Countdown Report in an online panel discussion context, bringing together leading academics and policymakers with wide-ranging experience and expertise:
