Pharmacoeconomics in Healthcare

 

Course Overview:

The healthcare reform and rising costs are driving demand for resources that better inform healthcare decisions. Pharmacoeconomics represents an interdisciplinary set of tools and concepts for assessing the value of everyday decisions made in healthcare settings. This certified course will explore the current state-of-the-art in the economic evaluation of healthcare technologies—specifically cost-effectiveness analysis of pharmaceuticals. It provides you with a comprehensive set of theories, tools, and analytic approaches to understand healthcare markets and systems. Learn how to apply Pharmacoeconomics principles to healthcare practices and policies. Moreover, illustrate different methods for pharmacoeconomic evaluation in healthcare, economic modelling, preference-based measures of health-related quality of life, and the development of coverage and reimbursement policies using cost-effectiveness data. A practical hands-on workshop on different modelling approaches for health technology assessment will be carried on.

  • Critically evaluate cost-effectiveness studies and develop effective presentations of economic evaluations.
  • Understand the application and design issues of budget impact analysis.
  • Evaluate the role of thresholds, decision rules, and innovative financial access agreements by health technology assessment agencies in the current environment.
  • Understand reference pricing and its implications.
