SDG 4.3.1 – Proportion of First-Generation Students

Newgiza University (NGU) collects and reports data for this indicator to monitor access to higher education among students from non-university-educated families. For the reporting year 2023/2024, a small proportion of students enrolled at NGU identified as first-generation university students—i.e., the first in their immediate family to attend university.

Data Summary:

  • Total number of students starting a degree in 2023/2024: 1385
  • Number of first-generation students: 8
  • Proportion: 8 / 1385 = 0.58%

NGU’s admissions policy is inclusive, transparent, and merit-based, ensuring equitable access for applicants from all educational and socioeconomic backgrounds. The low proportion of first-generation students reflects broader national enrolment trends rather than institutional barriers to access.
